Mulled Wine Recipe
Beat the cold this winter with a delicious cup of medicinal mulled wine.
The use of wine in Traditional Chinese Medicine can be found in seminal texts as a powerful harmoniser and driver of Qi. When infused with herbs the carrier wine has the ability to fight colds and flus, build immunity and harmonise the middle. This recipe is adapted from herbgeek.com to include Chinese herbs and believe me it packs a punch!
SPICEY MEDICINAL MULLED WINE
2 cups Apple Cider
3” piece Fresh Ginger diced
1 Tbsp Cardamom
3 sticks Cinnamon
1/2 tsp Cloves
1/4 tsp Black pepper
1 Vanilla pod
5 Star Anise pods
1 Orange
1 Lemon
6 Red Dates - Da Zao
6 pieces Gan Cao
1piece Dang Gui
Gou Qi Zi to serve
750g bottle Organic Shiraz
1/4 Brandy
METHOD
First, bring to the boil all the herbs (expect Gou QI ZI) in apple cider for 5mins. Then reduce heat and simmer partially covered for 30-40mins until apple cider condenses.
On a low heat add alcohol and allow herbal mixture to infuse for a further 30mins. Now it's ready to enjoy, pour into small glasses and add Gou Qi Zi to garnish. Enjoy responsibly.
